Senator Colburn Reports from Annapolis
Senator Richard F. Colburn (R. Eastern Shore) reported on events that took place this week. Senator Colburn stated, "On Thursday, February 25, at 1:00, the Senate Education, Health, and Environmental Affairs Committee heard Senate Bill 421 (Election Law - Delay in Replacement of Voting Machines). This bill would delay the date for replacing the state's direct-recording electronic (DRE) touchscreen voting system with a voter-verified paper record voting system until 2016. It would allow the state to continue using the touchscreen voting system for elections at least until payments for the touchscreen voting system are concluded. It would alter provisions relating to the certification of voting systems. Five reasons that I sponsored this legislation to delay the replacement are: More

Republican Budget Proposal Unveiled
The Democrat leadership in Annapolis invited the House Republican Caucus to a meeting Tuesday to unveil their proposal for closing the State's $2 billion budget gap. The premise of the Republican plan is to reduce the tax burden on Maryland's citizens by rolling back the recent tax increases while reducing spending. The House Minority Leader and Minority Whip presented the plan in the Joint Hearing Room to fellow members of the Maryland General Assembly. Delegate Jeannie Haddaway-Riccio was in attendance. More
Delegate Eckardt Reports From Annapolis
The House Republican Caucus presented an alternate budget vision to the House Appropriations Committee and the Senate Budget and Tax Committees this week. The fiscal vision presented includes a smaller, less intrusive government enterprise, reduced tax burden on Maryland citizens, state government that operates within its means, and a state financial system that escapes the chronic budget crisis. The plan proposes to achieve a balanced General Fund budget that is structurally balanced over the next five years without raising taxes, gradually reducing the tax burden on Maryland citizens. Specific items that further reduce the Governor's budget by $700million were included and will be deliberated in the budget committees. More

Chamber Renews Contract with Profile Display
The Talbot County Chamber has renewed their contract with Profile Display to sell advertising for the custom built information display located in the chamber reception area. The display has been created specifically to allow member businesses to prominently get the word out to every person who walks through the chamber door - potential customers who are specifically seeking information, and are receptive to your message. These ads are the first thing they see when they enter - attractively showcased on the beautifully designed display. Potential customers not only see the ads, they can also pick up literature to keep on hand so they can contact you later. Representatives from Profile Display will be contacting chamber members to offer them the opportunity to purchase an ad space.

Shouldn't Recycling Be Easier Than Driving to St. Michaels?
This Wednesday, March 3, Phillips Wharf Environmental Center is sponsoring a discussion on recycling, beginning at 7 p.m. at Two If By Sea cafe, 5776 Tilghman Island Road. At present, Tilghman and Bay Hundred residents have to transport their recyclables to St. Michaels, the closest recycling station.
Speakers and panelists will include Ray Clarke and Derick Brummell of Talbot County government, James Wood of the Mid-Shore Recycling Program, and Ford Schuman of Infinity Recycling. This is an opportunity for Tilghman and Bay Hundred residents to find out first-hand what's involved in setting up a recycling center or arranging pickup for recyclables.
Doors open around 6, and Chef Henry Miller of Two If By Sea says that light fare -- salads, sandwiches and such -- will be available for anyone who comes hungry. If you haven't eaten at Two If By Sea yet, this is your chance. Find out why your neighbors are eating here.
The 4-H of Talbot County has a new Science, Engineering, Technology & Robotics initiative to increase science learning.
