TitleThe Vietnam traveling Memorial Wall
Place nameThe Vietnam traveling Memorial Wall
Date startMay 31 2018 12:00am (171 Days Ago)
Date endJun 06 2018 12:00am (165 Days Ago)

The traveling Wall, a scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, will be at the Easton VFW Post 5118 from Thursday, May 31 to Wednesday, June 6, 2018, and will be open for public viewing for a week.

Organizers are looking for hundreds of volunteers to help with the wall, which will be open 24 hours daily. There also are numerous fundraisers planned to support the effort.

One of the more dramatic aspects of the Wall’s visit will be the reading of all 58,000-plus names. As of late February, 30 people had signed up to be readers; many more are needed.

If someone is trying to find a name, NJROTC cadets, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts will be trained to find that name on available computers and help by escorting visitors to that area of the Wall.

Opening ceremonies, tentatively scheduled for 6 p.m. on Friday, June 1, will be a highlight of the week with bagpipers playing, a “fly-over” of Vietnam-era helicopters and a speech by retired U.S. Army 4-star General Larry R. Ellis.

Ellis is a Vietnam veteran, along with doing tours in the United States, South Korea, Germany, Bosnia and Herzegovina. He currently lives in Georgia but was born and raised in Dorchester County.

After his speech, he will preside over a pinning ceremony and present local Vietnam veterans with a 50th anniversary Vietnam War pin and certificate.
