St. Michaels Farmers Market Market Manager
Job Description
The St. Michaels Farmers Market seeks a dynamic market manager to manage vendor, volunteer and customer relations as well as lead day-of market operations for our non-profit community market. This is a seasonal position from February 15, 2025 – December 15, 2025.
Market Manager Responsibilities
● Oversee all day-of aspects of farmers market operations, including:
o Coordinate vendor attendance and participation;
o Oversee and direct day-of volunteers, who assist with Market set-up and break down; and
o Interact with Market customers.
● Attend all Saturday morning markets in season (April – November).
● Assist the Board of Directors in monitoring vendor compliance with sustainable farming methods
● Work with the Market’s President and vendors during the week to prepare for the upcoming Market
● Utilize Marketspread software to administer Market operations.
Compensation and Schedule
● Flexible, part-time position
● Anticipated commitment of 15-20 hours per week (variable)
● Attendance at all Saturday Markets in season
● Hourly rate: $22.50, paid monthly
Employment period: February 15, 2025 – December 15, 2025
● Dedicated laptop provided
Qualifications
● Exemplary customer service and relationship-building skills
● Strong administrative, organizational, communication and problem-solving skills
● Ability to juggle multiple tasks simultaneously
● Experience leading/managing/directing individuals and/or teams a plus
● Familiarity with, or willingness to become familiar with, software programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, QuickBooks, Google Drive and Marketspread.
● Willingness and desire to advocate for Market goals
● Own transportation required
● No farm experience necessary
Market Mission & Operations
The mission of the St. Michaels Farmers Market is to:
● Promote sustainable agriculture;
● Bring fresh local food to the center of town on a weekly basis;
● Improve food access and equity for local communities; and
● Provide a welcoming gathering place for community members and visitors alike.
The Market operates from two adjacent parking lots at 206 South Talbot Street, St. Michaels, every Saturday from 8:30 to 11:30 AM from Mid-April to the end of November. Typically, 20-30 vendors and 400-600 customers attend each Market session. The Market Manager works closely with a volunteer Board of Directors, several sub-committees, and volunteers who assist in setting up, operating, and breaking down the Market. The Market generates operating income from vendor fees, fundraising events, swag sales, and donor contributions and is a non-profit public charity.
