  • Mid-Atlantic Symphony Orchestra announces Winners of the 4th Annual Elizabeth Loker International Concerto Competition
    Delmarva Peninsula – The Mid-Atlantic Symphony Orchestra (MSO) held the 4th annual Elizabeth Loker International Concerto Competition on March 22nd and 23rd, an event that attracts exceptional young musicians from around the world. This year’s competition saw an impressive 118 candidates from 27 states and nine countries, culminating in a final round featuring the top three outstanding musicians for this year’s competition.
    The three finalists showcased their musicality and technical ability before a distinguished panel of judges. Britton René Collins from New York City performed Sergei Golovko's Marimba Concerto, Christopher Chung from New York City performed Heitor Villa-Lobos' Ciranda das sete notas, and Jonah Kwek from Singapore performed Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1. The judging panel consisted of Sachi Murasugi, Professor of Music at Salisbury University, Simeone Tartaglione, Associate Professor of Instrumental Music and Conducting at Catholic University in Washington, D.C., and Kurt Nikkanen, Concertmaster of the New York City Ballet.
    After an afternoon showcasing their performances with the full Mid-Atlantic Symphony Orchestra, the panel of distinguished judges selected this year’s winners. First place and a cash prize of $5,000 was awarded to Britton René Collins. Christopher Chung secured second place, earning a cash prize of $2,500, while Jonah Kwek was awarded third place with a cash prize of $1,000. Additionally, the audience had the opportunity to participate in the competition by voting for their favorite performer. The Audience Prize, which included a $500 cash award, was given to Britton René Collins for her extraordinary marimba performance.
    MSO Board of Directors Chairman Jeffrey Parker said “We are absolutely delighted with the exceptionally high level of both artistic acumen and passion exhibited in each of the finalists’ performances today and are blessed to have such talented young musicians compete in the 2025 ELICC final round - performing live with the full Mid-Atlantic Symphony Orchestra. Today’s performances have been incredibly inspiring to everyone in the audience here at Todd Performing Arts Center.”
